Increase Connection for Increased Performance

Long before we were telecommuting and working from home, we knew that different management styles greatly affected the throughput of an organization. Management that spent more effort to “connect” with their employees, had far higher performance levels overall, while less empathetic managers yielded lower production levels.

This has never been more evident than now, amidst the current remote working model, for the contrast is even more evident. Connected management models are thriving, while production numbers are diving for managers who do not exert effort to be more connected, especially during these unprecedented times.

It’s never too late to start connecting with your teleworkers, now is a way better time to initiate some connectedness than later.

What can you do to connect with your telecommuters working from home?

How Can Management Increase Connection with Telecommuters?

Management needs to find ways to increase interaction among the employees. One way is to check-in regularly, and instead of expecting reports on results, make a conscious effort to create opportunities by using videoconferencing to connect and ask staff how they are doing?

Not with respect to their numbers per se, but ask them how they are feeling? What challenges might they be having? And do not limit responses to directly work-related. Then brainstorm as a group possible solutions to the problems faced by different team members.

You will be surprised how a little outside-the-box intervention can increase efficacy. For instance, if one of your team members is having a hard time due to their refrigerator going out, and someone in the team has a spare fridge in the garage: problem solved. And productivity for that individual who was previously distracted by a personal challenge increases their output by 300%. (But try not to make it sound like seeing increased output as your only motivation. Instead, create affinity by assuring them that you care.)

And it all doesn’t have to be just about the work: Create an online talent show, where team members get to show off some of their lesser-known skills and abilities.

When times are tough, the best thing you can do is to reach out and increase your connection with your people. It is the kind of thing that money cannot buy and is far more valuable and creates greater employee retention in the long run.

When the leader initiates this kind of camaraderie and support in their organization, the workforce creates a new level of compassion within itself. Co-workers will be reaching out to each other and supporting each other which takes the burden off management to try to fill in all the gaps (which would be virtually impossible).

This is how the team culture is built and solidified. It doesn’t take long and the organization supports itself on all levels because team members are not just working for a common goal, they are supporting each other. This helps create a new level of organizational culture within the ranks.

And when one person or department struggles, the rest of the team rushes in to help for the sake of supporting someone who needs help for the success of the greater good.

What it comes down to is management, the leaders, and direct supervisors, being compassionate and supportive, being willing to get involved in the personal details of staff and help them recover quickly without sacrificing productivity.

Do not avoid the opportunity to ask your remote worker how they are doing and handling any potentially challenging situation.

Comparing the numbers between connected management and organization run without connection, the difference is staggering polar opposites.

And those who are increasing their employer/employee connection, are far more successful, even thriving, even amidst times of hardship.

Connectedness can mean the difference between survival or failure.

Work and Adult Education from Home Opportunties

With the growth of more people increasingly telecommuting and working from home, it’s no surprise that remote workers are taking this time to advance their intelligence, awareness, and business acumen by seeking adult education opportunities online.

Mature man in graduation gown posing with diploma and laptop on table isolated on white background

In this way, as we enter into a new world emerging from the ashes of the pandemic, many teleworkers will have taken the opportunity to grow personally and professionally, and doing so helps to not only increases their earning potential but can make the world a better place.

People who have not had the time when they were having to commute to and from work every day, are now able to transform those previously lost hours into furthering their own education. Many of them are former college attendees or graduates who lost the opportunity to move forward in their education, and there are those who felt like they were never privy to the potentials of higher education due to being thrust into the struggle for survival.

Now, the opportunities for advancing your education are all around you, and if you are working from home, you can pick up skills and abilities that can move you and your career to the next level post haste.

Many people with pre-digital-era degrees are taking this opportunity to go back and freshen-up their educations, skills, and abilities to be better prepared for the new normal that is not far off.

A Commercial Arts Degree from the 1980s looks very different from a more current Commercial Arts Degree, as you might be able to clearly see. The more primitive degree would have used the tools that were available in those days, like papers, scissors, paste, pens, pencils, colored markers, projectors, cameras that depended on the development of film, huge lighted layout tables, and so many other archaic artifacts, some that are still used today in rare circumstances, but most of the heavy lifting is done digitally.

This accounts for all areas of college study in the last 40 years or more because our world has changed so vastly in the last 50 years it boggles the mind.

Today is the perfect time to look into opportunities to advance your education whether it has been 40 years or 4 years since you have attended any course of college study.

Working in your field of expertise and watching it evolve over time, has helped to keep you from falling behind. You have had to evolve and change the way you do business to adapt to new technologies as they became available.

If you were fortunate to gain employment in your collegiate field of study, you may be in a field that requires regular continuing education units, and this has helped you keep up to speed. Your peers may not have been so fortunate.

Still, there is much you may have wished you hade the chance to have been involved in, and now you can.

For those who have felt they missed the opportunity to pursue higher education this is your chance.

You may have always wanted to go to school to earn that certification or degree that would help you to increase your performance or open new doors leading to better earning potential, professional advancement,  or independence.

There are so many educational opportunities which are available to you, right now, from the convenience of your own home, given a few hours a week or more, can give you the edge that you need to take advantage of this rare occasion to seize the moment.

There is little better that you can do for yourself than to take the time to advance your education, broaden your horizon, and increase your potential for a better life, your best life, and make the world a better place.

Telecommuting Security Working from Home Remotely

If you are already telecommuting, you probably already have your security affairs in order for this is a prerequisite for working remotely for any discriminating employer. It is important for the responsible telecommuter to have the basic security measures instilled as the standard operating procedure if you intend to work remotely for someone else (plus they are good measures to have in place for your own safety and security in an uncertain world). These methods protect both you and your employer.

Secure Your Wi-Fi

Starting at the beginning, since you will be using your wireless router at home to access the Internet and conduct business on the behalf of you employer, make sure to change your home Wi-Fi router’s password to something unique, and not your Internet provider’s default password.

Raise Your Wireless Security Awareness

If you are accessing wireless networks while in transit or at different locations, avoid connecting to public networks, especially when working. You don’t want to be the weak link in your employer’s system, and there are many cybersecurity threats and criminals out there scanning for vulnerable remote workers, don’t be one of them.

If you must access an open network be extremely cautious. Only log-in to secure sites (HTTPS) and heed warnings of outdated, untrusted, or self-signed security certificates. An antivirus program is essential, and it is a good idea to have a VPN onboard, even if your employer does not require a VPN.

Unique Passwords

This may feel uncomfortable, especially if you have been using a limited number of passwords that you can remember to log-in to things. In a secure work from home scenario, every device, every program, service, and web site should have its own unique password. Preferably one you cannot remember off the top of your head. And (here it comes) you need to change them periodically to keep them fresh.

If this sounds overwhelming, you can use a password manager, which is a security tool that keeps track of all your passwords so that you don’t have to remember them. You will need to remember only one password, the one to access your password manager, then you let it do all the heavy lifting by securely logging you in.

Data Security Mindset

Be extremely mindful and guard private and proprietary information with integrity, which means not to disclose any confidential or personal information over the phone or in emails. Cybercriminals are quite adept at impersonating management, staff, friends, or coworkers to compromise your data.

If something doesn’t sound right or seems like it might potentially lead to compromise, call up your security team or project manager, and report the incident or suspicious activity. It does not reflect upon you poorly to err on the side of caution.

Software Updates

Do not put off security updates on your devices or software. These updates help keep you and your information protected. New patches and updates are released whenever any potential for breach is discovered by the provider.

Plus, the updates keep the software working effectively when exchanging and interacting with other users and coworkers who are using the same software. It is helpful to rely on everyone using the same versions of the product.

Verified Software Tools

If you are used to finding free software to help you to accomplish a task quickly, do not use the computer you work with to do so, and you would be best advised to stop doing so altogether. Unfortunately, free software is a breeding ground for malicious software.

Try to stick to software solutions that are registered and approved by your security team, management, or other team members. Again, keeping everyone on the same page, whenever possible, for consistency and security.

I Should Have More Money Working from Home

The coronavirus lockdown hit, you were transitioned to telecommute, look at all the benefits of working at home, plus you are saving all that money in the daily commute. You review your bank statement, and you say, “I should have more money working from home,” but it appears you are spending more.

What’s happening here?

No more high transportations costs, no parking, dry cleaning, expensive coffees, lunches, after-work rendezvous, that translates to more money in your pocket, right?

On the surface, of course, the answer is, “Yes.” Only, something happened that you didn’t expect, you started spending the money you saved in other ways, and it snuck up on you. You didn’t even know it was happening.

Granted, since the coronavirus pandemic hit, the cost of groceries has increased, but still, that’s barely a blip on the radar. Today, you are ordering more on the fly online. Nothing to see here, just click and wait for it to show up on your doorstep. This is the world we live in today.

Impulse Buying

We have Milton Hershey to thank for all those impulse items stacked up at the checkout stand at the supermarket, today we have Jeff Bezos to thank for nearly everything (“everything” if he has his way) on the planet is just one click away.

And we click.

There are increases in other costs of doing business from your home, like increased electric bills, Internet, printer supplies, maybe some mobile technology-related items that make working from home a little easier or more efficient, the rest? Well, the rest is just unrestricted impulse buying online.

What does that boil down to?

Every American that mutated from traditional office work to telecommuting is saving the money from the old-fashioned commuting but is making up the difference and then some in increased expenses and extraneous online convenience-buying.

How much more?

On average, every person in the USA that transitioned to remote work is spending an extra $27 per week.

$27 per week

$27-a-week may not sound like much to you, but if only the extra (those dollars more than the pre-pandemic regular work expenses) are being spent at Amazon. Well, that is considerable, indeed.

My grandfather used to say, “If you want to find out the truth about anything, follow the money.”

Top 10 Pandemic Businesses

If I were to take his advice and take a look at the Top 10 business (not counting hospitals, insurance companies, and healthcare) who are raking in profits fast that you can say, “Where’d that money go?” the list would look like this:

1. Amazon.com
2. eBay Inc.
3. Apple
4. Netflix
5. Alphabet/Google
6. FedEx Corp.
7. United Parcel Service
8. Microsoft Corp.
9. Facebook
10. Zoom

I don’t know exactly what this list reveals but seeing Amazon.com at the top of it doesn’t surprise me.

And if you are one of the teleworkers in silicon valley who moved outside of silicon valley to cut your monthly overhead, be aware that your bay-area employer may follow Mark Zuckerberg’s lead who announced he will be cutting the wages of those Facebook remote workers who moved outside of the San Francisco Bay Area as a part of the teleworking urban exodus to save a few dollars on their work from home expenses.

Fortune 500 Companies Exploit and Rip-off New Remote Worker Hires

Since the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, more jobs are moving online and more telecommuters are working from home than ever before, and the evil underground and crime syndicates are seeking whom they may devour in this mad dash to move from industrialized work environments to remote workers working from home.

Fortune 500 Company Job Scams

You might be surprised to discover that even the biggest and best Fortune 500 companies appear to be exploiting and ripping-off new remote worker hires. That’s what you might think if you didn’t know any better.

This means you must be cautious and exert your due diligence when you are being courted by a potential telework employer because there are wolves in sheep’s clothing looking to exploit you if given half the chance.

We’ve heard the stories, and as more come, we will let you know how you can avoid the pitfall and protect yourself by being swindled by some unscrupulous villain posing as an authentic employer.

Paid in Advance

Case in point: Julian had posted his resume online to widen his range of opportunities in the telecommuting marketplace. Not long after, he received an email from the HR department of a top-rated Fortune 500 company.

Julian is resourceful, so he looked up the HR representative, and was able to verify that he did indeed work for the company in the HR department, just as he had presented himself.

Time was ticking and the window on this $35-an-hour work from home job opening, which was a perfect fit for Julian, was closing soon. Full benefits and 45 days of advanced-expense-paid training were included in the offer.

Julian accepted the offer and received an $8,124.16 check in the mail drawn on the Fortune 500 company’s account and he was instructed to use some of the advances to buy equipment online that would be necessary for him to connect remotely to the company.

He promptly deposited the check and used his debit card to purchase the equipment which was purchased through an employee-encoded link from the company (a long-tailed URL that included the name of the company). The one-time cost of the equipment: $2,700.00 including a code (provided by the HR representative) for free three-day delivery to Julian’s address.

Three days later no package arrived. Two more days passed, and Julian was contacted by his bank reporting the check (though it for all intents and purposes was a real check from the company) had bounced and reportedly was obtained via the dark web.

Because Julian had used his debit card (which does not offer the higher degree of protection to the user as a credit card) to make the $2,700.00 purchase, he was out that money for certain, and he was also on the hook for what he had already spent of the original $8,124.16.

Google Hangouts Interview

In another case, Andrew received an opportunity to interview for a high-ranking employer via Google Hangouts (which is currently in the process of being phased out by Google) which is also a common component of these felonious fake online job scams offers.

Andrew was awarded the job and was sent two consecutively numbered checks from the company, one for the wages, and one for the equipment cost. Like Julian, Andrew had to purchase the telecommute gear through their coded link.

You or I Could be Victimized

Julian and Andrew are not incompetent. They are smart, well-educated, and honest people, just like you and me. Even the brightest individuals can be conned by a psychopathic con artist who will do anything to fleece you of your last remaining resources without blinking an eye.

You can (and should) report to your local police if you are ever the victim of an online job scam.

Note that if you do report the scam to the authorities, they will be hard-pressed to actually catch these crooks to prosecute or return your losses to you. These criminals are highly adept at covering their tracks and are potentially subdivisions of highly sophisticated crime syndicates.

With the COVID-19 lockdown in progress and many job seekers taking their job searches to the Internet, be aware that these scoundrels are out there.

Hot Tip

In both cases, Julian’s and Andrews, a simple phone call to the HR department of the company would have avoided any financial exposure, giving them the heads up to contact the authorities to report the job scam.

Telecommuters Are Ready for Wage Increases

So, you are working from home, and you are fully aware of how beneficial this new arrangement is for your employer. The more you telework, the more you notice; while this is better than working in the office, it does have its challenges. It is time and telecommuters are ready for wage increases.

Freelance work concept – close up of woman hands holding new dollar bills she earned working from laptop at home online

Granted, working from home is better than working in the office, but things could be better, and as time lingers, and this temporary vacation from the daily commute is looking more like a long-term scenario, employees who remote work are starting to look for ways to make the telecommuting more advantageous.

The first place remote workers look, when they are looking for greener pastures is increased wages. They already know their employers are seeing a twenty to thirty percent increase in employee throughput, and employers are paying far less to support the telecommuting workforce. Therefore, desiring a piece of the action is not unfounded.

And if the employee is not hearing (or feeling) an underlying wage increase may be in the wings, they are already looking for higher-paying opportunities, while they are being paid by their present employers. They can just as easily stay at home and work for someone else and make more money.

It is up to the employer to act now and discover ways to incentivize their remote workers before they jump ship. In a sense to share in the benefits of obtaining greater HR results and lowered employee support costs.

Wage Increase

A wage increase is one way to appease the increasingly anxious locked-down telecommuters, and no doubt, it is an effective first step in building affinity with off-site teleworkers working from home. But it is not the end-all-be-all solution, though it is a good start.

There are other things that can be even more meaningful than the wage increase for the remote worker.

Home Office Upgrades

Most home office workspaces are less than desirable. Some have excellent resources and separate office space in the home, while others are working on the sofa using the coffee table for their desk. It doesn’t take much imagination to see that those telecommuters who are having to manage their work in substandard conditions, helping them to make up the difference can go a long way into making them feel better about working from home.

Employers could either provide a selection of office equipment or necessities for remote workers outright or use credit earned for performance increases. The more productive the employee, the greater amount of credit which can be spent toward their selection of office gear.

Which brings us to the next perk employers need to think about,

Reward System

Employers are building affinity with their employees when they recognize them for a job well done. Especially when their job performance numbers are already up since they have been working from home. Employers who track their performance and have a reward program that incentivizes them to do even better is a great way to disperse some of the savings which are realized by the employer who has made the shift to telecommuting.

Wellness Program

Whether an employer offers insurance benefits or not matters less than encouraging telecommuters to actively engage in wellness while they are working from their homes. Incentivize them to take walk, treadmill, or workout breaks. Employers can supply treadmills or other equipment and make it fun. Maybe have remote workout meetings while employees teleconference while walking, jogging, or working out. This can take your online brainstorming sessions to a whole new level.

Employee Partnership

This is the time to start to make teleworking employees feel as though they are in partnership with their employers. This may take a leap in culture for your working environment, but this will be efforts well spent, and employers who do so will see the benefits in increased job performance and lower turnover and HR costs.

Unbeknownst to the telecommuters (or clearly known), these are the types of benefits that they are seeking when they are looking for a better opportunity as the shift from office to homework is starting to look like the new normal.

Now is the time to consider demonstrating that the current employer is offering the connection, communication, recognition, and gratitude that the telecommuters are looking for.

Benefits of Remote Work

If you’ve ever dabbled in moonlighting or working the occasional odd job on the side while managing the day-job that pays your basic expenses and you are one of the ones who are currently telecommuting instead of having to get yourself to and from work every day or a recipient of ongoing unemployment, you may be noticing a silver lining to this pandemic and realizing the benefits of remote work.

For those Americans who are more ambitious, they are riding the pandemic train and making the best of the opportunities that have sprung up along the way. Certainly, there are worse things that could happen, and these people are avoiding contracting the coronavirus, while they pursue other endeavors.

The most enterprising who normally would have other irons in the fire are continuing to participate or offer their a la carte services on-the-side. Others are taking advantage of the pandemic lockdown to seek out new opportunities, to engage their latent entrepreneurism, or to expand their education.

You could wallow in depression about being on lockdown and restricted from engaging in activities like you might have before March of 2020 like many of your peers or you could be capitalizing on the increased bandwidth and seize the opportunities which would otherwise be laying dormant all around you.

Regardless, whether you are cashing in on the extra time that is available to you (at least 10 hours a week for remote workers, and much more for others who are on the dole) there are many benefits of remote work, such as,

You Are the Master of Your Work Environment

It is empowering to designate, create, and decorate your own workspace to perfectly suit your style and level of comfort without having to accommodate others. When you are working from home, you can set up your desk and work area the way you like. Hang the pictures you want, have your favorite plants around you, listen to your favorite music while you work, there is essential very few limits, except for the possible accommodations which might include an appropriate backdrop when teleconferencing.

More Cash in Your Pocket

The first thing that comes to mind is the savings in your travel expenses to and from work, that’s a given, but there are many other areas where you will be able to see the difference in your bank account. You will find savings in wardrobe and makeup costs, lunch, and designer coffee expenses, and other surprising areas as you continue to work remotely.

Increased Focus

Probably the biggest influencer of the increased performance of those who work remotely compare to those who still have to slave away at the office. While you might initially think there would be more distractions at home, it turns out that when you are working in an effective environment from home, you can focus on tasks far more effectively, and this is likely teleworkers outperform in house office workers by up to thirty percent or more. It turns out there are far more distractions in an office setting throughout the day, usually due to casual interactions with other staff and/or management.

Professional Growth

Remote workers are becoming more fiercely independent as they cannot lean on their coworker’s support as readily (of course, your team is there if you need to reach out to them) but they are far more likely to problem-solve intuitively or on-the-fly. This is building a skillset of professional excellence that might have eluded you in a traditional office setting.

Unparalleled Flexibility

As the master of your own schedule, you can flex your hours to fit your lifestyle. You would play hell trying to get away with this very often restricted to an office environment, but when you are working from home or telecommuting, you have the ability to make adjustments, to take your child to the doctor or pick up essential items at the store during normal work hours, then make up for it in the evening or on the weekend.

And your break times? You can do whatever you like. (Try to get away with that at the office.) I will let you ponder the endless possibilities.

Your Office Location is Fluid

Your remote workstation could be anywhere you are, as long as you have an Internet connection. You can work from your car, your mother-in-law’s house, a restaurant, Internet café, coworking space, the waiting room of the doctor’s office, just about anywhere you and your laptop could be. This is an incredible amount of freedom and liberty to have, even considering current pandemic restrictions. Take advantage of being able to basically work in the field and spread your wings.

Instant Communication

While you might have felt awkward texting, Facebook messaging, or face timing coworkers at the office, if you are working remotely, it is part and parcel of regular everyday activities. You do not have to wait until your next scheduled break. When you get the idea, shoot off a text. It is okay.

Videoconferencing

Videoconferencing platforms like Zoom are seeing explosive growth with the expansion of telework during the pandemic. Virtual meetings are far more superior to traditional office meetings. They can be conducted in far less time consumed, and save on other valuable resources, like printing expenses. Plus, you can participate from the comfort of your own home, and pants are optional.

These are just a few of the most impressive benefits of remote work.

Latent Entrepreneurship During the Pandemic

This might be the ideal time to unleash your latent entrepreneurship during the pandemic lockdown. Have you ever wondered, “What if I didn’t have to work for anyone?” or, “What if I could be my own boss?” You may have even dipped your toe in the water of entrepreneurship and tried to start your own company but weren’t able to make the leap because you had to make the ends meet. You are a “latentpreneur” or latent entrepreneur.

The Latent Entrepreneur

The latentpreneur  (latent entrepreneur) is someone who desires to be self-employed. Either imagining what it would be like to live life on your own terms, to be your own boss, or actively researching and planning to make a successful transition from working for someone else or slave labor to full self-employment.

If you are a latentpreneur, there is a brilliant mastermind inside you just looking for the opportunity to emerge and carve out your own path to success mastery, but with all your efforts to survive, you were unable to get enough momentum to break through the barrier to your own independence.

You were stuck in servitude to supporting someone else’s dream in order to just make a living. This is the trap that most Americans get stuck in (and corporate America is banking on it). The goal is to find that sweet spot. To pay you just enough to get by, but little enough that you cannot get too far ahead or break free.

Pandemic Opportunity

One of the most exciting things that is taking place, right now, amidst the doom and gloom of the coronavirus pandemic is that latent entrepreneurs are readying the emergence of their dreams to release their entrepreneurship in all its glory.

They are using this time to study, plan, and brainstorm their way into an exciting new life, fully empowered as masters of their own destinies. There is a massive transformation taking place that would not have been possible, if not for the COVID-19 lockdown.

There are different kinds of people who respond differently when given a mandatory period of restraint of isolation. The full spectrum of responses is expressed while the pandemic restrictions are being enforced. On one end of the spectrum, there is apathy, depression, and suicidal ideation, and on the other end of the spectrum, you see increased optimism, creativity, enthusiasm, and determination.

The latentpreneur sees the possibility of a bright future ahead and empowered with increased time on his or her hands, can turn this otherwise negative circumstance into the chrysalis which facilitates the change necessary to make the otherwise seemingly impossible leap to greatness.

Telecommuter Transformation

Even if you are telecommuting and working 40 hours a week from home, you could pick up at least another 10 hours per week (probably more) to focus on your dream building.

Latentpreneurs are capitalizing on those recaptured moments that were previously lost to commuting to and from work or commiserating with other employees in passing, and turning them into precious moments spent building the foundation for their virtual empire.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you found these latent entrepreneurs staying up late, burning the midnight oil researching and making plans.

They are taking this precious opportunity to make a difference in their lives and the world by transforming from latent entrepreneurs to full-on entrepreneurs, putting themselves behind the wheel, and taking charge of their own destinies.

Opportunity Abounds

To latentpreneurs, everything is an opportunity, and no stone is left unturned.

This is a golden opportunity for latentpreneurs all around the world.

I think you will be surprised at what emerges from the ashes of these pandemic flames.

What about you?

Taxman Cometh for You

Hear that? That is the sound of the spurs tinkling on the taxman’s cowboy boots. He’s mighty upset about losing all the tax revenue from them-there commuters travellin’ to and from work every day. The western taxman is armed and dangerous, and if you are a remote worker, he’s a-gunnin’ for you.

If you are telecommuting, you are working from home and according to tax collectors, you are not paying your fair share. When you were working in the office, you were paying gas tax, tolls, parking, lunches, and a host of other auxiliary expenses that had taxes built into them.

According to the IRS, if you are a remote worker, you are underpaying an average of $2,500 in taxes by teleworking. And the employers will be paying less in taxes as well, as they are cutting their commercial real estate usage back tremendously during the pandemic (and many are ready to let them go altogether).

This has politicians and taxmen shaking in their boots, and they are in the process of conspiring to figure outa way to mess up your good fortune, by taxing the “feel good” right out of your work from home scenario.

A research document from Deutsche Bank clearly suggests, “Employees who choose to work remotely should pay a tax to help those workers on low incomes who cannot.”

Many telecommuters are already facing double taxation if they live in one state and work for a company that is in another state. These unfortunate remote workers are taxed first by the state from which they are being paid, and again by the state where they reside.

Granted, tax credits are available for victims of this type of double-taxation.

I have trouble understanding tax-math. How about you?

Taxman Cometh for You

Nonetheless, the taxman cometh for you. We don’t exactly know what it will end up looking like, yet, but you can bet your favorite politicians and tax collectors are furiously anxious to get everything they can from you, and they will justify themselves all the way to the treasury.

They will say, “John Q. Taxpayer is saving all this money by no longer having to commute, so John won’t even miss it.”

The Deutsche Bank report suggests the employee should pay the tax unless the employer pays the tax for not providing the employee with a proper workspace environment.

Life is changing across the board thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, and for those jobs that have survived, many of them have shifted to remote work with employees working from home, and this work model is likely to survive the effects of COVID-19, post-pandemic.

It looks like telecommuting is here to stay, how the taxman will respond has yet to be seen, but rest assured he is flowing your taxpayer scent like a bloodhound.

Still, there are some members of the Senate who are resisting the efforts of the tax collectors to exploit your efforts if you are working from your house or apartment. So, all is not lost, yet.
